QLYC Cole Cup
Dear Sailors,
Thank you for your interest in taking part in the Cole Cup Passage Race.
This is a re-staging of an event that was abandoned earlier in the season
Weather permitting the race will be a passage race to the Portsea Hole and back via fixed marks on the bay. The exact details will be presented at briefing and may be adjusted by prevailing conditions.

Non-Members
Non-members intending to sail, must: GET SAILPASS, (a $15 temporary membership fee applies) and then, register for this event .
Registration helps the club in effective on-water management and also provides added insurance while on the water for all participants. Please complete the form as soon as possible.
The Course
- Grass Beds start
- Prince Edwards Bank Pile (south Channel entrance EB) North Cardinal to port
- West most mark of Portsea Hole 38.18.563 S, 144.42.683E to port
- South Channel red pile #2 to port
- Popes Eye Annulus to starboard
- Grass Beds Finish
This is the same as listed in the Standard Course guide
Notes Portsea Hole is located approximately 500m from the Portsea Pier and located within the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park. There are four yellow marks surrounding the hole. The rounding mark is the most Northwest mark, 38.18.563 S, 144.42.683E to port
Briefing
A race briefing will take place at 11am in front of the Harbour Office at the Western end of the Queenscliff Marina, on Saturday 15 March
- Owners take full responsibility for the suitability and safety of their vessel
- Please carry a First Aid Kit and fresh drinking water.
- Ensure all POB have PFDs
- VHF radio communication with the QLYC support vessel “Swan” will be via VHF CH72.
The QLYC Emergency safety plan for racing will be used for all vessels
If, for any reason you need assistance or are withdrawing without finishing, please contact “Swan” on VHF 72.
A nominal start time will be declared at briefing (likely 12pm)
Any cruising boats taking part are asked to also start from this line at their leisure within 15 minutes after the race starting time. Forecasts look good for moderate winds at this stage.
- Drinks and hot chips will be available after the race at the boatshed at QLYC – Cnr Nankervis and King sts. Queenscliff, and all those taking part are welcome to attend.
