Dear Sailors,

Thank you for your interest in taking part in the Cole Cup race or the accompanying Observational Cruise on Saturday 30th November.

Weather permitting the race will be a passage race to the Portsea Hole and back via fixed marks on the bay. The exact details will be presented at briefing and will be determined by prevailing conditions.

Members

All members intending to be on board a boat racing or cruising should register as crew and nominate the vessel here. (Registration open from Wednesday 27 Nov)

Non-Members

Non-members intending to sail or motor on vessels on a keel boat or couta boat in the observational cruise, must:

GET SAILPASS (a $15 temporary membership fee applies) and then, register for this event (Registration is now open) by completing this special crew declaration form, where you will be asked to provide the name and an emergency contact number for each crew member.

Registration helps the club in effective on-water management and also provides added insurance while on the water for all participants. Please complete the form as soon as possible.

For those sailor’s unable to use this link, a paper sign on form will be available at briefing, however, to speed up the process on the day, skippers and crew are asked to register prior to the briefing where possible.

The Course

  • Grass Beds start
  • Prince Edwards Bank Pile (south Channel entrance EB) North Cardinal to port
  • NW mark of Portsea Hole 38.18.563 S, 144.42.683E to port
  • South Channel red pile #2 to port
  • Popes Eye Annulus to starboard
  • Grass Beds Finish

Notes Portsea Hole is located approximately 500m from the Portsea Pier and located within the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park. There are four yellow marks surrounding the hole. The rounding mark is the most Northwest mark, 38.18.563 S, 144.42.683E to port

Briefing

A race and cruise briefing will take place at 11am in front of the Harbour Office at the Western end of the Queenscliff Marina.

  • Owners take full responsibility for the suitability and safety of their vessel
  • Please carry a First Aid Kit and fresh drinking water.
  • Ensure all POB have PFDs
  • VHF radio communication with the QLYC support vessel “Swan” will be via VHF CH72.

The QLYC Emergency safety plan for racing will be used for the cruising boats engaged in this event.

If for any reason you need assistance or are withdrawing without finishing, please contact “Swan” on VHF 72.

A nominal start time will be declared at briefing (likely 12pm) and cruising boats taking part are asked to also start from this line at their leisure within 15 minutes after the race starting time. Forecasts look good for moderate winds at this stage.

  • BBQ, drinks and nibbles will be available after cruise at the boatshed at QLYC – Cnr Nankervis and King sts. Queenscliff, and all those taking part are welcome to attend.
