Swan Operators’ Course
The QLYC has a new committee boat, Swan - an Arvor 20 Series 3 - and we would like you to consider joining the Race Management team and learn to operate the vessel.
Swan s fully equipped with many features, so if you have a Marine Licence and would like to assist the club in this way it is essential that you complete an orienctation course.
The course involves just one theory and one practical session.
Please note that to operate MV Swan you must
Be a member of QLYC, and
Hold a current Marine Licence, and
Have completed the Swan Operators Course, Theory and Prac, and,
registered by the Club Captain
The course has been compiled by Ian Campbell, Maurice Kuter and John Barry, 2023
and includes the following topics.
1 Standard Operating Procedures
2 Operating Systems: Electrical, Mechanical, Steering and Engine controls, Anchoring, VHS UHF and BC Radio, SatNav, Flir, Radar, On board toilet
3 Safety Equipment: Personal Equipment, PFDs, Life Ring, Epirb, Signals
4 Local Weather, Tides, Streams and Hazards
5 Boat handling and use
6 Safety at sea
7 Roles on Swan
8 Emergency Procedures
The first Swan Operators course will be conducted on Tuesday 15th August from 6pm and Practical Tuesday 22nd August from 2 pm
