The Seven Seas is a unique new musical play being developed right here in our region.
This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the creative development of an epic new work and engaging in artistic practice in collaboration with an ensemble of dedicated theatre artists and musicians.
Throughout January 2023 the Seven Seas Project will undertake a series of free Creative Development workshops.
The play has evolved through various stages over the last two years. From on-line readings, previews, music composition, it has progressed to two further public readings, one with music where it received fantastic praise and feedback. Now it is ready for dynamic on the floor exploration with a keen ensemble of theatre artists, to explore and refine how the play works on stage.
The Seven Seas will engage 9 – 16 actors, 2 dancers, and 2 singers (who may be part of the ensemble of actors), to bring to life its story, featuring 11 songs in 12 settings
The workshops will involve 10 days (equivalent) voluntary intensive exploration by the Actors Singers Dancers and Art designers selected. We will explore some important staging questions posed by this exciting and unique new musical. Times will be negotiated around ensemble availability.
The workshop will actively explore
Character development
Chorus harmonies and solo singing
Playful staging design elements
Movement
Modes of delivery
An exhibition performance of the workshop discoveries will be presented to industry professionals and a public audience on Friday January 27th at the Potato Shed Theatre.
The workshops will be led by Ian Campbell and supported by the composer Danny Krivan. Ian is a passionate theatre maker, the author of the play, and was formerly Director of Performing Arts at Kardinia International College, and a lecturer in Performing Arts at Deakin and the University of Tasmania.
